DOJO RULES

Shotokan Karate Noord Nederland offers a top-level association for practitioners of all levels, with respect for traditional and contemporary Shotokan Karate insights. Lessons are taught by recognized dan-degree trainers for people of all ages. Practicing Karate improves skills, physical condition, concentration, self-confidence, and discipline for children and adults alike. At Shotokan Karate Noord Nederland, we practice traditional karate while incorporating modern insights from contemporary karate.

  • Please treat each other with respect and greet each other before and after each exercise.


  • We train in Gi or sportswear. During the trial period, sportswear is acceptable, but after the trial period, a Gi is required.



  • When entering or leaving the dojo, please bow at the entrance and say the greeting "Osu."


  • A greeting ceremony is held at the beginning and end of each lesson.


  • Nails on both hands and feet must be trimmed short.



  • Jewelry should be removed before the start of the lesson. If that is not possible, it should be taped.


  • Never walk in between two karateka who are training with each other during class.


  • Train with concentration during the lesson and avoid making any disruptive comments or movements.



  • Discrimination, violence, or any other forms of seriously disruptive behavior will not be tolerated. In case of serious misconduct, the board may remove a member from the association without a refund of the membership fee.


MATCHES / ACTIVITIES

  • Our association aims to be active with competitions, activities, and seminars.



  • Membership with the KBN allows participation in events, often at reduced costs.


• Participation in these activities is recommended, as it gives the participant a broader view of karate-do.

• Membership with the KBN is completed at the same time as registering with our association. The member receives a KBN passport in which his or her progress within Shotokan karate-do is registered.

EXAMINATION

• Examinations are offered twice a year on dates determined by the board. It is only possible to deviate from this in exceptional cases, the board decides on these unique cases.

• The exams will be conducted by KBN examiners.

• Exam costs can be checked with the board, this differs per belt/grade.
